Honor has not been attended to very much in recent moral philosophy and many people seem to think that it is, at best, the relic of some archaic prejudices. I want to argue, by contrast, that, while it is not itself a moral value, honor--or something very like it--can play a very useful role in consolidating and reforming morality. I also think that it is psychologically inescapable, which is another reason for finding a place for it.
