The paper offers a new interpretation of Aristotle's
analysis of akratic action in Nicomachean Ethics VII 3. Employing
resources that Aristotle provides in NE VII 3 and elsewhere in his
corpus, I argue for an interpretation according to which akratic
action arises from psychological conflict and can be clear-eyed, in
the sense that the akratic agent can be aware of the fact that they
should not be doing the specific thing that they are doing.
