Non-Penn Students

Penn Philosophy welcomes students from the Greater Philadelphia region to take courses at Penn and receive credit through their home institution.

To become a visiting student for a semester:

  1. Identify a course you would like to take from our course offerings page
  2. Contact the instructor of the course to obtain permission to attend their class
  3. Complete the Visiting Students Form
  4. Contact the department administrator for next steps

Once your Visiting Student Form has been completed and received, the department administrator will submit the necessary forms to obtain you a PennCard and Pennkey. This process will take about a week to complete, so you must submit your request no less than one week prior to the first day of classes for that semester.

Once your request has been approved, you will need to:
1. Make an appointment to pick up your PennCard. For your appointment, you must bring:

  • a valid photo ID (either an official photo ID issued by a U.S. state or territorial government (e.g., a driver's license) or a valid passport)
  • $30 PennCard fee

2. Enroll in PennOpen Pass

Please be aware, Penn requires all campus visitors to be vaccinated at the time of arrival. Penn is not making accommodations to this policy for guests at this time. Additionally, all guests must abide by relevant COVID-19 restrictions and participate in the Open Pass system. You can find out more about Penn’s requirements here: https://coronavirus.upenn.edu/content/visitors
