I came to Penn in 2022 from the University of Warwick, where I was an Associate Professor of Philosophy and the co-director of the Center for Research in Post-Kantian European Philosophy. Previously, I held postdoctoral and visiting positions at Columbia University, Sorbonne University, and the University of Saint-Louis in Brussels. In 2023-2024, I was a Humboldt Research Fellow at Freie Universität Berlin, working on a book project on the critical social philosophy of Frantz Fanon. I will be there again in Spring 2026.
I came to Penn from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, where I was an Assistant Professor. My interests are both historical (Kant, as well as 19th-20th centuries) and thematic (issues in ethics, social critique, aesthetics, philosophy of science).
For appointments please use my calendly page. [This is for in-person office hour appoinments only for Penn students.]
I work in Ancient Greek philosophy, and in contemporary moral and feminist philosophy. Some of my work is at the intersection of these two areas. You can find more about my work on my website: www.sukaina-hirji.com.
