Over the last several years, my work has focused on “thick” emotional
attitudes such as love, resentment, hope, and gratitude. I argue that
these attitudes essentially incorporate both sub-rational and rational
elements of human psychology, and thus have interesting and distinctive
influences on rational deliberation and choice.
Future projects include papers on the ethics of eating animals, conscientious objection in the provision of medical care, and what it means to relate to a person as a reasoner.
